Notes | Regarding the purpose and use of the present work at school, Kidrič notes: 'The need for a book was discussed as early as 1777, 'in order to ease the efforts of catechism teachers in those parts of this country that are predominantly Slovenian'; it is a type whose Slovenian translation was given, as the case of Ahacelj shows, even in Carinthia, the lack of other Slovenian textbooks in the hands of schoolchildren, while the original was intended only for teachers and parents'. Kidrič believes that the work had already been printed before 1790, shortly after the translation of Veliki katekizem was commissioned in 1777 (in SBL Kidrič dates the supposed publication to around 1778). Andoljšek believes that this is not the case and places the first edition in the year 1790 (Kidrič, 2013 and Kidrič, 1929-1938, 198 and Andoljšek, 1978, 59). |
